The apostolic age

"Irenaeus, the defender of the hierarchy, attacked these advocates of ‘emotional ecstasies which rejected tradition’.

‘The Age of Miracles and revelation has ended now the last of apostles dead,’ declared Irenaeus. He opposed the so-called heretics with a policy of ‘word and sacrament’ – in other words, a defined gospel and a programme of Church-organised rituals."

"9Mr. Karl Pearson (Academy, August, 1885), who says: 'The Catholic Church has quite enough to answer for, but in the 15th century it certainly did not hold back the Bible from the folk: and it gave them in the vernacular (i.e. their own tongue) a long series of devotional works which for language and religious sentiment have never been surpassed. Indeed, we are inclined to think it made a mistake in allowing the masses such ready access to the Bible. It ought to have recognised the Bible once for all as a work absolutely unintelligible without a long course of historical study, and, so far as it was supposed to be inspired, very dangerous in the hands of the ignorant."

Knowledge should be available to all, depending on the technology,
that of the Middle Ages being somewhat different from our own.

The popes of this period were a reflection of the College of Cardinals that elected them. The College was dominated by cardinal-nephew (relatives of the popes that elevated them), crown-cardinal (representatives of the Catholic monarchies of Europe), and members of the powerful Italian families. There were two popes each from the House of Borgia, House of della Rovere, and House of Medici during this period. The wealthy popes and cardinals increasingly patronized Renaissance art and architecture, (re)building the landmarks of Rome from the ground up.

The golden age of papal corruption, produced one of the greatest ages of Art in man's history. Alas, the Church allowed such men as Da Vinci & Galileo to arise. Luther hidden by his allies in the German Forest, Calvin writing madly surrounded by the Alps. Presses selling like hot cakes all over Europe. The suppression of knowledge was no longer an option, at the beginning of this period she controlled all of Europe, at the end of it, she retained France, Spain, & Italy. Save for diplomatic consultation the Temporal powers that the Church had wielded in the past waned from this time.

"Aragon and Castile were the most important Spanish states from the 12th to the 15th century, consolidated by the marriage of Ferdinand II and Isabella I in 1469. In 1478, they established the Inquisition, to root out heresy and uncover Jews and Muslims who had not sincerely converted to Christianity. Torquemada, the most notorious of the grand inquisitors, epitomized the Inquisition's harshness and cruelty. The last Muslim stronghold, Granada, was captured in 1492. Roman Catholicism was established as the official state religion and most Jews (1492) and Muslims (1502) were expelled. In the era of exploration, discovery, and colonization, Spain amassed tremendous wealth and a vast colonial empire through the conquest of Mexico by Cortés (1519–1521) and Peru by Pizarro (1532–1533). The Spanish Hapsburg monarchy became for a time the most powerful in the world. In 1588, Philip II sent his invincible Armada to invade England, but its destruction cost Spain its supremacy on the seas and paved the way for England's colonization of America. Spain then sank rapidly to the status of a second-rate power under the rule of weak Hapsburg kings, and it never again played a major role in European politics. The War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714) resulted in Spain's loss of Belgium, Luxembourg, Milan, Sardinia, and Naples. Its colonial empire in the Americas and the Philippines vanished in wars and revolutions during the 18th and 19th centuries."

"Somehow, some of these atoms came to be arranged in the form of molecules of DNA"--Steven Hawking

Some say The Book, so zealously guarded, was used as justification for the deaths of millions, & the enslavement of millions more through these long dark ages.

Ah! the True Faith. One who holds The Truth. All else is error. The Book is consulted daily in the Mass; preachers proclaim it loudly in tune with the times: This is what it says they say.

Ah! the True Faith. One who holds The Truth. All else is error. The Book is consulted daily in the Mass; preachers proclaim it loudly in tune with the times: This is what it says they say. knew the peaceful man was a rarity, & some say he asked too much of us.

woe to the scribes & Pharisees in all ages.

They had gotten rid of the Pope & set their sights on getting rid of the king. Meanwhile they slaughtered the natives, & rescued the descendants of Ham, as the Word allows the purchase of our neighbors' slaves.

I hesitate to scribe to tell the tale. To put in at Charleston & empty the hold of its filthy cargo & pay the overseer for the use of his crew to clean the hold, just another step on the long road of woe.

I would hold the Devil to blame, used the Word to lie to us, I'd remark if I were of a theological bent. Might be more accurate to say that avarice is implanted on our DNA, though no-one has proven that.

Ah! the True Faith. One who holds The Truth. All else is error. The Book is consulted daily in the Mass; preachers proclaim it loudly in tune with the times: This is what it says they say.

If the unit is allowed to be Western Civilisation, one might postulate a marker at Nietzsche's remark that God is dead; which at that time was essentially the Christian conception, and from that point note the rise of the secular humanist as the dominant minority. The record of atrocity has not improved.

"The time scale for evolution, in the external transmission period, is the time scale for accumulation of information. This used to be hundreds, or even thousands, of years. But now this time scale has shrunk to about 50 years, or less. On the other hand, the brains with which we process this information have evolved only on the Darwinian time scale, of hundreds of thousands of years. This is beginning to cause problems. In the 18th century, there was said to be a man who had read every book written. But nowadays, if you read one book a day, it would take you about 15,000 years to read through the books in a national Library. By which time, many more books would have been written. --Hawking

Information is at the speed of light sources multiply. The Truth a diamond
reflecting the light of a burning sun. quantum computers, AI, anti-gravity in a galaxy far far away. Have you ever noticed that Kal-el is an alien messiah dreamed up in the misty dawns by two Jews in New York? Prophecy seems not dead in our materialistic age, we crave the magic of mythologies.

"Superman's Moses-like origin and his Midwestern WASP-ish (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) persona are widely regarded as a symbol of Jewish assimilation. Children of immigrant Jews, Siegel and Shuster were not unlike many in their generation in their desire to fit in to the general goyim population. The creation of Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent was a manifestation of the desire by Siegel and Shuster to "pass" in mainstream population and also to assert control in a world that had often left them feeling powerless, such as when Siegel's father was murdered."

"As shown in a number of published comics, including Superman: A Man For All Seasons, the adult Clark Kent continued to visit and consult with the minister at his family church, even after he had begun his career as Superman. This does not mean, however, that the adult Superman attends weekly church services (he does not). If asked if he is a Methodist, the adult Superman would not answer "no," but he would defer answering such a pointedly denominational question by suggesting that he respects people of all faiths and backgrounds and considers himself a servant of all humanity."

False Doctrine abounds. The Conglomerate obscures, spins Elysium from innumerable founts. The One Truth is a faint shout in the forest. Therein lies war,

"a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”

"That Which Cannot Be Denied" demands much, & has much noise to contend with as the New constantly overwhelms the Now. The noise is all fiction in the hologram, one gospel much the same is another, if you would have it so.

The Powers That Be work to aid in the death of the One Truth,

They have trained their hearts for greed, these cursed children! 15 By forsaking the right path they have gone astray, because they followed the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, 16 yet was rebuked for his own transgression (a dumb donkey, speaking with a human voice, restrained the prophet’s madness).

2 peter.

When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come.” And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.

The mongols push the tribes east, Charles the Great takes the head of anyone who does not accept Christ, the ebb & flow of armies in the field down the dark centuries, attributed just as well to the movement of Folk to & from across the face of the globe, pressured by conditions the edges clash & burn.

(Each of our present conflicts has at least one religious component, in the Ukraine the Orthodox have the One True Faith.)

Pah-wraiths, the false prophets who twist the truth, find the words malleable like clay & contend with a galactic Messiah. The Prophet was a mad man writing on the asylum walls, Religious works are not unknown even in Hollywood.

Festus himself had to contend with the Sicarii; but Albinus, in return for money and other presents, left them in peace, and even convicted Sicarii were released on promising to spare their opponents. On one occasion they kidnaped the secretary of Eleazar, governor of the Temple, but liberated him in exchange for ten of their comrades ("Ant." xx. 9, § 3). At the beginning of the war against the Romans, the Sicarii, with the help of other Zealots, gained secret access to Jerusalem, where they committed atrocious acts. Their leaders, including Menahem b. Jair, Eleazar b. Jair, and Bar Giora, were among the important figures of this war; and they held possession of the fortress of Masada until it was taken by the Romans.

Rebellion has gone out of fashion, those who dissent from the central state are not liberators but criminals. The hologram paints the picture gloomy & dark, the music is ominous, all the screens feature the same headline, somewhere something has gone horribly wrong. Not in accordance with the accepted accords. Mass murder via WMD's vs be headings of the innocent absolves no one. Imperialism of the Mind, the man of sin does not believe in sin. Justice is another myth.

Might say the more prosperous the culture, the more secular it becomes. Comfort of the spiritual world is compensated for by the pleasures of the flesh. The liberal prevails until cataclysm overturns the society.

"The Teacher is extolled as having proper understanding of the Torah, qualified in its accurate instruction
i.e. an inspired interpreter of the prophets, as the one “to whom God made known all the mysteries of the words of his servants the prophets” -1QpHab 7:

Mostly the inspiration is fevered imagination, however, the weave & warp of time is not a straight line, & I prefer not to confine the mind, leaves room for  intersections where dimensions might collide. The probability of alien contact in the past is not zero, which opens doors in the acquisition of knowledge.

"It is widely accepted that the first ontological argument was proposed by Anselm of Canterbury in his 1078 work Proslogion. Anselm defined God as "...that than which nothing greater can be conceived,"'

Without God, & sadly nothing is proven of life outside ourselves, we are left no recourse but to declare ourselves the epitome of the natural order of things, rather vain I suppose but that is the way of things. Some of the more prideful may deny being god, others remain who scoff at the notion of no god, the hologram will provide in any case.

'"But the Sadducees [...] take away Fate entirely, and suppose that God is not concerned in our doing or not doing what is evil; and they say, that to act what is good, or what is evil, is at men's own choice, and that the one or the other belongs so to every one, that they may act as they please. They also take away the belief of the immortal duration of the soul, and the punishments and rewards in the Underworld."'

29 All those who from the first were known to him, he has destined from the first to be moulded into the image of his Son, who is thus to become the eldest-born among many brethren. 30 So predestined, he called them; so called, he justified them; so justified, he glorified them

"Commander Riker has dramatically demonstrated to this court that Lieutenant Commander Data is a machine. Do we deny that? No, because it is not relevant: we, too, are machines, just machines of a different type. Commander Riker has also reminded us that Lieutenant Commander Data was created by a man; do we deny that? No. Again, it is not relevant. Children are created from the 'building blocks' of their parents' DNA. Are they property?" Picard asks rhetorically.

The gory details of The valley of Megiddo running red with blood need not be our only future. Setting aside the fact that it does so today. The Aztecs have already heralded a new baktun, which through the magic of science coincides with Newton's number of 2060 when we shall be in the Eye, exactly aligned with the center of the galaxy.

In twenty years or less we shall have the advent of AI, & the change in the paradigm will be profound, such a discovery might hasten contact with an alien species, indeed, according to some that may be the destination to which they have always guided us.

Lockheed promises fusion up & working in 10 years.

A mission to Mars with a hundred colonists is in the works. Shall God's wrath extend to an innocent world?

Revelation, in the final analysis is about Rebirth not death. We shall say in our hubris, that The Lamb of God ends our aggression & that a great truth will be revealed at a cataclysmic event. Several loom on the horizon.

A new Age dawns! replete with dragons who belch fire & fly, angels with flashing wings, Ezekiel's wheel perhaps.

The probability of alien life is not zero, that of the deity must of necessity remain zero since it is by definition immeasurable, therefore, it is more likely that it was aliens rather than "God" who early man encountered. To be sure other theories exist, The preflood world may have seen Atlantis & many other wonders which are unknown to us, It may be, that survivors of that world were the Great teachers who came to the Sumerians, the Egyptians, the Indians, & the Chinese in the great river valleys? Giants who became gods.

Nor does the late date of the Aztecs compromise that since the prophecies date back through earlier traditions, the Maya, the Tolteks.

Other more conservative views might see the antideluvian world as nascent, still the survivors would not be bereft of skills.

YUSUFALI: To every people (was sent) a messenger: when their messenger comes (before them), the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.

The scientific study of religion must be simultaneously anthropological, psychological, and sociological, dealing with the individual forces, the cultural systems, and the social structures that, in interaction, shape religion and are shaped by it. The aim of this book is to establish a frame of reference that expresses this judgment and a method of study appropriate to it that the reader can carry with him as he explores questions of interest to him.

Behold th' effect of love's resistless sway!
I, Nisus' royal seed, to thee betray
My country, and my Gods. For this strange task,
Minos, no other boon but thee I ask.
This purple lock, a pledge of love, receive;
No worthless present, since in it I give
My father's head.- Mov'd at a crime so new,
And with abhorrence fill'd, back Minos drew,
Nor touch'd th' unhallow'd gift; but thus exclaim'd
(With mein indignant, and with eyes inflam'd),
Perdition seize thee, thou, thy kind's disgrace!
May thy devoted carcass find no place
In earth, or air, or sea, by all out-cast!
Shall Minos, with so foul a monster, blast
His Cretan world, where cradled Jove was nurst?
Forbid it Heav'n!- away, thou most accurst!

Ovid, Book 6

in this respect, the relationship between Christianity and Judaism is much worse than the relationship between Christianity and the other religions. For Israel alone had been chosen for and received a vocation, gifts and history, etc., very different from all other people on earth: in God’s plan Israel was entirely and completely ‘relative’ to Christ and Christianity.  Having failed to achieve, through its own fault, such an important ‘relativity’, it had of itself put itself in a state of objective ‘rejection’. This state will last as long as the Judaic religion throughout the world refuses to recognise and officially accept Jesus Christ.

The Jews and the broken Covenant
By Mgr. Cali

The Abrahamic faiths maintain a linear cosmology, with end-time scenarios containing themes of transformation and redemption. In Judaism, the term "end of days" makes reference to the Messianic Age, and includes an in-gathering of the exiled diaspora, the coming of the mashiach, olam haba, and resurrection of the Tsadikim. Christianity traditionally depicts the end time as a period of tribulation that precedes the second coming of Christ, who will face the emergence of the Antichrist and usher in the Kingdom of God. However, some Christians believe that the end time represents the personal tribulation experienced before they are enlightened with the Word of God.[1] In Islam, the Yawm al-Qiyāmah or Yawm ad-Din, the Day of Judgement, is preceded by the appearance of the Mahdi atop a white stallion. With the help of Isa (Jesus), the Mahdi will then triumph over Masih ad-Dajjal (the false messiah).

At the end of thy tenth hundredth winter, the sun is more unseen and more spotted; the year, month, and day are shorter; and the earth is more barren; and the crop will not yield the seed. And men become more deceitful and more given to vile practices. They will have no gratitude. Honorable wealth will proceed to those of perverted faith. And a dark cloud makes the whole sky night, and it will rain more noxious creatures than water.

Virtually every major decision and law promulgated by the Islamic State adheres to what it calls, in its press and pronouncements, and on its billboards, license plates, stationery, and coins, “the Prophetic methodology,” which means following the prophecy and example of Muhammad, in punctilious detail. Muslims can reject the Islamic State; nearly all do. But pretending that it isn’t actually a religious, millenarian group, with theology that must be understood to be combatted, has already led the United States to underestimate it and back foolish schemes to counter it. We’ll need to get acquainted with the Islamic State’s intellectual genealogy if we are to react in a way that will not strengthen it, but instead help it self-immolate in its own excessive zeal.q

These scrolls contain an apocalyptic prophecy of a war between the Sons of Light and the Sons of Darkness. The war is described in two distinct parts, first (the War against the Kittim) described as a battle between the Sons of Light, consisting of the sons of Levi, the sons of Judah, and the sons of Benjamin, and the exiled of the desert, against Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Amalekites, and Philistia and their allies the Kittim of Asshur (referred to collectively as the army of Belial), and [those who assist them from among the wicked] who "violate the covenant". The second part of the war (the War of Divisions) is described as the Sons of Light, now the united twelve tribes of Israel, conquering the "nations of vanity" [9] In the end, all of Darkness is to be destroyed and Light will live in peace for all eternity. The text goes on to detail inscriptions for trumpets and banners for the war and liturgies for the priests during the conflict.

"If Woodrow Wilson is correct, and we were intended to be a spirit among the nations, then the 21st century will mark a full scale return to the wars of religion." -Bloom, 1992.

In 1932, he eliminated the system of congregations electing bodies of elders, claiming the office of elder was unscriptural;[123] in 1938, he replaced the earlier system of congregational self-government with a "theocratic" or "God-ruled" organizational system in which the Brooklyn headquarters would make all appointments in congregations worldwide.[101][124] Consolation magazine explained: "The Theocracy is at present administered by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, of which Judge Rutherford is the president and general manager."

"I personally think that all these cultures are drawing from the same original story, a story that was told only one way, and that as migrations happened from this original group they started adding in details that were more locally important to them.  But that each of these cultures sincerely believed they were passing on the true account of the origin of humanity to their descendants as this story was told.

“if you add up all of the asteroids, even accounting for the trillions of tiny ones that we haven’t discovered yet, the total MASS and VOLUME is going to be just a few hundredths of our moon. "The researchers offer a plausible explanation for this finding. Svante Pääbo: "Neandertals probably mixed with early modern humans before Homo sapiens split into different groups in Europe and Asia." This could have occurred in the Middle East between 100,000 and 50,000 years ago before the human population spread across East Asia. It is known from archaeological findings in the Middle East that Neandertals and modern humans overlapped in time in this region."

Behold, it [the Zohar] is like Sefer ha-Yashar, which they printed (without my knowledge and without the knowledge of the sages here in Venice, about twenty years ago). Although I removed the fantasies and falsehoods from it, [eg,] that it is the Sefer ha-Yashar mentioned in Scripture, there are still those who claim that it was discovered during the time of the destruction [of the temple]. But who can stop those who imagine in their minds whatever they wish.

— Leon Modena, Ari Nohem, before 1648[3]

Despite Modena's intervention, the preface to the 1625 version still claims that its original source book came from the ruins of Jerusalem in AD 70, where a Roman officer named Sidrus allegedly discovered a Hebrew scholar hiding in a hidden library. The officer Sidrus reportedly took the scholar and all the books safely back to his estates in Seville, Spain (in Roman known as Hispalis, the provincial capital of Hispania Baetica). The 1625 edition then claims that at some uncertain point in the history of Islamic Spain, the manuscript was transferred or sold to the Jewish college in Cordova. The 1625 edition further claims that scholars preserved the book until its printings in Naples in 1552 and in Venice in 1625. Apart from the preface to the 1625 work, there is no evidence to support any of this story. The work was used extensively, but not especially more than many other sources, in Louis Ginzberg's Legends of the Jews.

Jerome (c. 390) and Isidore of Seville (c. 600) followed Josephus' identification of Gomer with the Galatians, Gauls and Celts

The difference boils down to this: who has the ultimate choice in salvation—God or man? In the first view (the prescient view), man has control; his free will is sovereign and becomes the determining factor in God’s election. God can provide the way of salvation through Jesus Christ, but man must choose Christ for himself in order to make salvation real. Ultimately, this view diminishes the biblical understanding of God's sovereignty. This view puts the Creator's provision of salvation at the mercy of the creature; if God wants people in heaven, He has to hope that man will freely choose His way of salvation. In reality, the prescient view of election is no view of election at all, because God is not really choosing—He is only confirming. It is man who is the ultimate chooser.

In the Augustinian view, God has control; He is the one who, of His own sovereign will, freely chooses those whom He will save. He not only elects those whom He will save, but He actually accomplishes their salvation. Rather than simply make salvation possible, God chooses those whom He will save and then saves them. This view puts God in His proper place as Creator and Sovereign.

God's People will Be Preserved
…2And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, 3saying, "Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads."
